ALS Europe - Trace Element and Isotope Analysis (ALS Lulea)

May 17, 2018

Following our recent ALS Europe news stories, ALS Environmental would now like to showcase our specialised testing from our laboratory in Lulea, Sweden.

ALS Scandinavia has more than 20 years experience in trace elemental and isotope analysis. The laboratory in Lulea is a research-oriented contract facility with many years of knowledge in applied focused research collaborating with universities not only in Sweden, but around the world.

Their main area of expertise is trace element and isotope analysis and can also offer elemental speciation of As, Hg, Se and Sn.

Lulea can offer testing using ICP-SFMS (Induced Coupled Plasma - Sector Field Mass Spectrometry), 2 ICP-OES (Induced Coupled Plasma - Optical Emission Spectrometry), MC-ICP-MS (Multicollector - Induced Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometer) and AFS (Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometer).  Utilising this technology allows us to offer isotope analyses at even lower concentrations and with better precision than before. By combining commercial testing with research ALS Scandinavia is taking the latest in isotope analysis to our customers worldwide.

ALS Lulea routinely perform metal screenings of over 70 elements in a variety of matrices and we are able to offer full or customised analytical packages for your specific needs. The screening package includes elements, heavy metals, trace metals, REE elements (rare earth elements) and can be complemented with the halogens Br, Cl and I. The screening can be offered both semi-quantitatively and fully quantitatively. Comprehensive trace metal screenings are useful for a variety of fields including:

  • Checking background levels in the environment.
  • Impurity analysis of products or chemicals.
  • Investigational purposes, to find the origin of a particle in the production process.

So far, more than 120 papers have been published based on work at ALS Scandinavia. ALS Scandinavia has participated in numerous international studies for isotope ratio measurements with excellent results. This has established Lulea as a centre for high quality isotope ratio measurements.
