Closed System Analysis

The analysis of closed systems is covered by the Building Services Research and Information Association (BSRIA) guidance and is designed to help keep closed systems free from scale, corrosion and bacterial growth. The build-up of these contaminants blocks up pipes and plates, reducing efficiency and effectiveness and even causing system failure.

ALS are able to support clients in meeting the BSRIA Guidance for testing under both the BG29 and BG50 documentation. Our laboratory in Coventry is able to offer rapid analysis of the key chemical and microbial parameters that form the BSRIA guidance to help you make reactive decisions on your analytical data.

ALS Laboratories utilise the rapid confirmation technique known as MALDI-ToF to confirm Pseudomonas Species to provide an instant confirmation as well as a full species identification in over 99% of samples analysed.

The BSRIA documents state that Sulphate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) is analysed for 21 days to comply withguidance. To help customers manage client expectations ALS now report interim reads for this test on days 7 and 14 to keep clients abreast of developments. This enables customers to complete reporting for a failed SRB, review the systems and re-sample as opposed to waiting the full 21 days to report a positive result.

The British Standard (BS) 8552 outlines the Code of Practice for sampling and monitoring of water from building services closed systems. The guidance reccomends that water is analysed as per the table below:
